The Weekly Highlights 01/27/14 – 01/31/14

A look at this week’s highlights on Wellsboro Home Page.

The Mansfield Tigers hosted the Northeast Bradford Panthers last Friday night. Mansfield having already clinched a district playoff birth, is trying to improve their district seeding and stay in the hunt for the NTL playoffs.

Mansfield showed that great defense creates opportunities on the other end of the floor. Northeast Bradford played the tigers tough through the first quarter only trailing the Tigers 10-18. Mansfield would pull away for good, beating the Panthers 57-33.

Bo Burleigh led the way with another double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Brady Andrews added 4 assists and 6 steals. Ryan Campbell also added 6 points off two three pointers.

Corrin Binford, our Penn State correspondent, had a report from State College. She has been following the coaching situation closely and went on a stroll poll asking Penn State Students what they think of newly hired football coach James Franklin. She also got their thoughts on former coach Bill O’Brien”s departure for the Houston Texans. Today Wellsboro Homepage has another weekly briefing from Chief Jim Bodine. This week we are talking about the Steer Clear Law. Many are familiar with the term “move over,” or the Move Over Law, but in Pennsylvania it is referred to as the Steer Clear Law. The Steer Clear Law requires drivers to move over or slow down whey they encounter an emergency scene, traffic stop or disabled vehicle.

Most importantly, it is important to remember that this law will help prevent injuries and save lives, but only if drivers follow the law and use common sense.

Tuesday night featured a double header. The North Penn Lady Panthers traveled to Canton where the Junior Varsity and Varsity squads faced each other.

For the complete interview with Mansfield Tiger Head Coach, Kipper Burleigh and highlights from the North Penn Lady Panthers win over the Canton Lady Warriors, be sure to watch the recap above!

The origin of Step Outdoors is found in a chronic disease prevention approach called Steps to a Healthier US (local initiative: Steps to a Healthier PA, Tioga County). This prevention model seeks to encourage healthy behaviors, such as daily physical activity and good nutritional practices. Steps to a Healthier PA began working with outdoor partners (i.e. PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, US Army Corps of Engineers, and Wellsboro Parks and Recreation) to encourage use of public outdoor recreational facilities as a means to a more active lifestyle for the whole family, resulting in the “birth” of “Step Outdoors…where health meets adventure!”

In the Home Page studio today is Annie Chapman, author of The Mother-in-Law Dance, who read the first page of her book to set the stage for a discussion of—and to encourage us in—our relationships.

During the interview, Annie shared with us what some of the mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law told her they desired in the relationships, such as: the daughter-in-law wants the mother-in-law to be positive and encouraging, to let them live their own lives and give advice only when needed; and the mother-in-law wants the daughter-in-law to love her husband, to be teachable, and to not complain about her son to other people.
