Kickoff your summer with this weeklong celebration!

Today’s feature focuses on the 76th annual State Laurel Festival, held June 10th-18th. Begun as a weekend event in 1938 by Larry Woodin, the festival has grown into a weeklong celebration that kicks off the summer.

It all starts with Family Day & The Children’s Health Fair, which will take place on Saturday, June 10th, provide opportunities for us to spend time with our family and friends, while showing us fun ways to stay healthy together. The community will gather on the Green for FREE games, music, giveaways, and healthy snacks. This even will take place from 10:00am to 1:00pm.

Then on Sunday, families and their furry friends will march down Main Street in Wellsboro for the Pet Parade. Dogs, cats, goats, llamas – your animal companions are welcome to join you in the costumed procession, beginning at Packer Park and ending at The Green. Judging of pet and people costumes will occur at 12:30pm.

Monday through Thursday will fill the air with beautiful music as the community enjoys the Laurel Concert series. Megan McGarry will play at the Deane Center in Wellsboro on Monday, June 12 at 7:00pm. Drowsy Maggie will perform on Tuesday at 7:00pm. The Wellsboro Town Band will open on The Green in Wellsboro, also at 7:00pm. Swing by the First Presbyterian Church of Wellsboro on Thursday night at 7:00pm to experience the Wellsboro Men’s & Women’s Choruses.

The events that the Laurel Festival is most famous for will take place on Friday and Saturday. Vendors will open their booths and tents for the Arts & Crafts Fair and International Street of Foods on The Green in Wellsboro from 10:00am to 8:00pm on Friday, June 16. Here you will find a plethora of beautiful crafts and homemade goods and art. Support our area artisans and maybe pick up a gift for Father’s Day! Refuel your adventure with the delicious foods that you’ll discover along the streets bordering The Green. Sink your teeth into savory cupcakes, juicy steak sandwiches and crispy fresh-cut fries!

The annual State Laurel Festival Parade will proceed down Main Street in Wellsboro on Saturday, June 17 at 2:00pm. This procession, (lasting about and hour and a half), will feature marching bands, classic cars, Laurel Festival Queen candidates, and amazing floats designed by many of our area’s non-profit organizations. Be sure to catch the candy they’ll be throwing!

These events are just a sneak peek of the many wonderful activities and entertainment you can enjoy this week for the 76th Annual State Laurel Festival!
