Hand-painted chair auction supports art club scholarship fund
The Wellsboro Art Club, which began in 1948, is still doing the creative work of making things beautiful for the community to enjoy, this time with an educational purpose!
While visiting outside of her hometown a few years ago, Suzan Richar, president of the club, saw a flyer with the words Chair-ity Auction on it. She immediately thought this might be an excellent idea for raising money for their Art Club Scholarship fund. This Art Club Scholarship is in honor of Jane Wetherbee’s love of art and art education. She is a long time member of the club who graduated from Wellsboro High School in 1947. She later graduated from Edinboro in 1951with a degree in Art. She returned to the area and taught for many years, and still resides in the area.
Two years ago the Chair-ity Auction came to be helping to raise funds for the Art Club Scholarship. And this year a $1,000.00 scholarship was awarded to Mikel Shaboski who plans on attending Penn State University.
Fast forward to this year and the Chair-ity Auction is happening again, this time on August 24th, from 7 pm – 9 pm at the Deane Center in Wellsboro. You are welcome to come at 6 pm to look over the chairs to see which ones catch your fancy! ( watch the video for a sneak preview) Once again, Bob Blair has agreed to be the auctioneer steering the bidding in a fun and fair way! There will be approximately thirty chairs to choose from in the tender. There is a minimum bid on each chair of $25.00.
When you take the time to stroll on the beautiful streets of Wellsboro until the auction, you will be able to see some of the chairs at these following locations; Pop’s Culture, Northwest Bank, Garrison’s, Indigo Wireless, to mention a few. Other places will be added closer to the event date.
