From the Parade to the Queen, there were many victors throughout the 76th annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival. The Wellsboro High School band marched away with the best small band parade award. As for the floats, the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital Auxiliary float was runner-up to Broad Acres in the Community Float Division, while Bob Dunham’s 1937 Oldsmobile took the antique and classic car award. But the award that spoke volumes is the Parade Marshall Award given to two parade entrants that went above and beyond to be a part of this year’s Laurel Festival Parade; the winners – Skip and Carol Cavanaugh and Blake Maxsom.

The 28 candidates for the 2017 Pennsylvania State Laurel Queen enjoyed a full weekend in Tioga County, from a tour of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon to riding on several floats in the parade. Saturday evening, the ladies entered the Deane Center’s Black Box Theatre, to vie for the title and a scholarship. Those titles and scholarships were awarded to 3 of the young ladies. Nominated by her peers, Miss Montoursville, Caroline Hernandez was named Miss Congeniality. Moments later, she was announced as 1st runner-up, and Miss Athens Sarah Montrose was named 2nd runner-up.
