Wellsboro and Mansfield fall to opponents in weekend games
On Saturday, September 15 the Mansfield Lady Tigers hosted Sullivan County and the Wellsboro Lady Hornets hosted Loyalsock in NTL soccer action.
North Penn-Mansfield started the game strong as Megan Derstine sent the ball back into play with a corner kick that was tipped in by Kiersten Mitstifer, giving the Lady Tigers the lead just 4 minutes into the game. But it would all come undone as the Lady Griffins went on to score 6 unanswered points.
Final score: Sullivan County 6, North Penn-Mansfield 1.
The Lady Hornets hosted the Loyalsock Lady Lancers later on Saturday afternoon. The Lancers hit the scoreboard first, putting up 3 points in the first half. But Wellsboro wouldn’t go down without a fight, as Kerrah Clymer sent a pass midfield and Emma Poirer turned on the jets, outran the Loyalsock defense and sent one past the keeper, making the score 3-1 with 37:54 left in the game. But Loyalsock kept on the offensive and put up two more points, making the final score 5-1, Lancers.
The Lady Tigers will be back on the field on Wednesday against Wyalusing, while the Lady Hornets travel to Athens. Thanks for joining us today on Home Page Sports.
