Corey Creek Golf Club

A beautiful 72 par course in our Endless Mountains

by Ryan Campbell – August 23, 2017

Nestled in the mountains of Tioga County, there is a hidden treasure for local golfers. Corey Creek Golf Club in Mansfield, Pennsylvania presents some visually breathtaking holes and is a fun challenge to play.
Open to the public, Corey Creek is in it’s 90th year. When it opened in 1927, it began as a 9-hole course. However, the holes had to be rebuilt after both hurricane Agnes and hurricane Elouise swept through the area and washed out parts of the course. Now, Corey Creek is in great shape and draws in local community as well as visitors from outside the area. Corey Creek’s former Golf Professional, Art Connelly, discusses how proud he is of how the course has developed to what it is today. “It has transitioned from a backwoods golf course to a fine golf course with help from the United States Golf Association, the membership, and the Green Superintendents throughout the years” said Connelly.

The Summers are busy at the course, filled with tournaments and weekly leagues. Corey Creek hosts around 40 tournaments a year, and also holds 5 weekly leagues on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Many of these tournaments benefit local non-profit organizations, and the majority of tournaments and leagues are open to the public, which provides many competitive opportunities for golfers in the local community.

Corey Creek is also known for it’s uniqueness and beautiful scenery. The club’s current PGA Professional, Shawn Mitcheltree, talks about his favorite parts about Corey Creek. “Corey Creek is a full public golf course which means you really run into a lot of different faces” said Mitcheltree. “This course really seems to invite people in.” “That’s the most enjoyable thing is the people, getting to meet people every day.” Shawn also offers golf lessons to people of all ages.

Having a thriving golf course in the area provides residents with another avenue for recreation and camaraderie, provides non-profit organizations with the opportunity to raise money and awareness, and it contributes to the financial well-being in the business communities.
