Commend Our Care-Givers!

This week is also National Nurses Week!

by Sara Vogt

The American Nurses Association board of directors, in a joint resolution with the United States Congress, designated May 6, to be ‘National Recognition Day for Nurses.’ President Reagan then signed this proposal.

In 1990, The ANA expanded the day to a week starting on May 6th and ending on May 12, the birth date of Florence Nightingale. Many others have followed in Florence Nightingale’s steps and have entered the medical field to be trained as nurses to help others.

Today in the studio, Barbara Strope, R.N. – an ICU nurse at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital – joined us to talk about her nursing experiences. She began by explaining how she became an L.P.N. (licensed practical nurse) and continued her education over the years to become an R.N (registered nurse). Strope shared why she enjoys nursing and working for Susquehanna Health here in Wellsboro.

Barbara also offered her advice to those who are interested in the nursing field and things to look for in the process. (Watch the video feature above to learn more!)

We would like to say thank you to all in the nursing profession for their hard work, support, and care!
