C&N Bank – Giving Back, Giving Together

Community means the world to Citizens & Northern Bank

by Citizens & Northern Bank – May 26, 2017

What comes to mind when you hear the word “community?” Perhaps you think of your next-door neighbor or the acquaintance down the street. Maybe you consider your local church or non-profit organizations that rely heavily on the goodwill of others. “Community” means so many things to so many people. And it means the world to Citizens & Northern Bank.

C&N has always believed that the economic vitality of our local communities is the lifeblood of our institution. That’s why we continue to stay deeply involved with our communities, providing support in many different ways. So much so, that we created a brand new program in March 2015 to take this commitment to a whole new level. We call it “Giving Back, Giving Together,” and it’s done just that and more.

Our team members are kind, generous, good-hearted people and they were just itching to do something miraculous for their communities! So we developed Giving Back, Giving Together to bring focus to our internal charitable efforts and make a substantial impact to one important cause. For its first year, we decided to address the problem of food insecurity in our area, named our program “Giving Back, Giving Together,” and things took off from there….

To start, we developed an internal contest and our 300+ team members were assigned to teams, each of which had a designated food pantry/bank that they supported throughout the year. At year-end, the winners of each bracket in the contest were awarded a catered lunch delivered by our CEO. Teams raised money in three ways:
1. Making & collecting donations
2. Volunteering at a food pantry of their choice
3. Hosting quarterly, week-long food drives

C&N also committed to donating $1 to the cause for every “like” or “share” associated with Giving Back, Giving Together on our Facebook page.

Our teams embraced the campaign with passion and a purpose! The generosity of our customers, clients and neighbors also became quickly evident as they also contributed to the cause. By the end of 2016, we have raised $110,000 in donations for food pantries and emergency services volunteers and C&N team members have volunteered on over 260 occasions. Best of all, it all stays local and was generated from the good hearts of our team members, customers and neighbors.

Giving Back, Giving Together has kept up the momentum through this year as well. For 2017, we’re committed to raising $60,000 in support of 18 local organizations that have made it their mission to help underprivileged children in our area. The goal is to make a difference and provide funding for these organizations to afford the supplies and programming they need to fulfill their missions. There are so many kids in our communities who deserve a chance at living a good, fulfilling life and Giving Back, Giving Together can help make that dream a reality for them.

Feeling inspired? You can help in our quest to provide support for these kids too!
